According to the Wall Street Journal, Hewlett-Packard wants to extend the reach of its new webOS operating system and the company is looking towards cars and household appliances. HP previously said it intended to put webOS onto every one of its computers in 2012, but adding automobiles and household appliances could really get webOS out there. Will manufacturers jump on board? The slow adoption of webOS is giving a lot of people pause.
The problem is that HP is very late to the game. We've heard from the start of webOS that it was still early in the market and that webOS would be a "player." Obviously, those predictions have not yet been realized. At this point in the game, Apple and Google are still very dominant and that doesn't look like it will change any time soon. Can HP pull it off? Maybe, but they will have to play their cards right.
“We're looking at expanding the base and bringing to the webOS community an ecosystem that inspires developers out there."
