Can webOS succeed in a TV?
By: Tom Manning - January 02, 2014

webOS was such a major fail despite being ahead of its time in so many ways. webOS was the unluckiest OS since BeOS. Palm hire former Apple designer Jon Rubinstein to breathe new life into Palm with the forward looking webOS. The results were amazing, but lack of funding, partnership with Sprint, and an unclear path to scale doomed the OS. HP bought the OS, but a sex scandal involving the CEO resulted in his ouster and webOS was doomed.

LG purchased webOS and is rumored to have it backed into a new Smart TV. The image above was published by @evleaks. It matches a Wall Street Journal report that claimed LG will unveil a webOS TV at CES 2014. Can webOS finally succeed?

webOS was designed for mobile devices and shined because of its gestures. Will the experience on a TV make webOS shine? Maybe, but we'll have to wait and see. I hope LG will put the resources required to bring webOS to a mobile device sometime soon. I loved webOS and have missed it since it went into the tech graveyard.
