Amazon may acquire webOS from HP
By: Tom Manning - September 30, 2011

Venture Beat has an interesting article out today about Amazon possibly acquiring what's left of Palm / webOS from HP. VB says they have a source that says Amazon may be the likely candidate to pick up webOS from HP, but there are other companies in the running.

A well-placed source tells us that HP is currently looking to rid itself of Palm as soon as possible, and that Amazon is the closest to finalizing the deal, among a handful of contenders.

Although I can't take credit for Amazon's interest, I did suggest that Amazon buy webOS way back in August, just after we found out that HP was dumping the OS. It would make complete sense for Amazon to use webOS in its Kindles, and maybe even to start competing head to head with Apple in the Tablet market. Amazon has a massive user base and they might be able to revive the interest in webOS.
