Will LG breathe new life into webOS or will this be another disappointment?

webOS has had a long history in its short life. After all, wasn't just a few years ago in 2009 when we saw webOS for the first time? Palm was resurrected and introduced webOS only to later get in financial trouble. They were purchased by HP who promised to double down on webOS. Unfortunately that didn't happen, and HP dumped webOS on the open source community.

Now LG comes to the rescue and things are once again looking up for webOS, sort of.

LG was apparently working with HP on using webOS in smart TVs. They were so impressed with the webOS team, they decided to bring them over to LG. Now they will use webOS in a smart TV, but so what? Unless they develop webOS on mobile devices I'm not ready to get excited. I choose my mobile devices based on the ecosystem. If I were to have a webOS TV, how would it work with my current Apple or Android products? Would there be a benefit over having a Samsung smart TV or just an Apple TV? That's really the bottom line for me.

I hope LG will double down on webOS and use it on many different products. That is something I could get excited about. If I see a webOS smartphone and/or a tablet, I'll be excited. Until then, I'm sticking to what works for me and currently I'm carrying an iPhone and Android phone.
