According to Infoworld, Palm, Inc. will issue a patch to fix a security vulnerability on some Treos, but maybe not others.
As we recently reported, Palm OS versions of the Treo suffer from a vulnerability where the phone can be locked, but the find application still works. This allows someone to potentially find your data even if your phone is locked.
Infoworld's Roger Grimes says he spoke with Marlene Somsak, VP of Communications for Palm, Inc., and was told that Palm was working on a patch for the Cingular's Treo 680 and Sprint's Treo 700p. What about other Troes? Grimes says he was told "all other models will remain unfixed (until they can find a reliable solution, if ever)."
Palm claims that fixing the vulnerability requires a software patch or ROM fix and both "would cause problems to many existing applications."
Although the security vulnerability is considered low risk, it is still disappointing that Palm has not already issued a patch.
