School is out, and that means pandemonium for parents who manage their kids' summer activities. In an effort to help more moms and dads get organized for the summer, Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq: PALM) today kicked off a special promotion: Customers who buy a Palm(TM) m500 handheld will get a Palm m105 handheld for free via a mail-in coupon. In addition, Palm customers can now download Palm DualDate(TM), a free application developed by WeSync that allows friends and family to share their calendars with other DualDate users and view two calendars at the same time on their handheld. The Palm DualDate application is available from http://www.palm.com/promotions/freem105.
Just in time for Father's Day, people who purchase a Palm m500 handheld (estimated U.S. street price, $299) from any retail store in the United States or Canada or from The Palm Store ( http://store.palm.com/ ) by July 8, 2002, can mail in a coupon to receive the free Palm m105 handheld. Shoppers participating in this promotion save $149, the estimated U.S. street price of the Palm m105 handheld.
"Staying on top of your world means staying in-sync with your friends and family," said Ken Wirt, Palm's senior vice president of marketing and product management. "This latest program is a great way to show consumers how Palm handhelds can help organize family information and make their lives easier."
Sharing Calendars
Palm DualDate, an enhanced version of the standard Palm Date Book application, allows users to send, receive and synchronize calendars between Palm handhelds. Users can do the following:
beam a protected "read only" version of their calendar to another Palm DualDate user;
view two calendars together side-by-side in Day view and merged in the Week, Month or Agenda views (in merged view, the secondary calendar is identified by a different shade);
send updates and synchronize changes to shared calendars by subsequent beaming; and
protect sensitive events in shared calendars by using the Palm privacy feature.
Palm DualDate runs on Palm handhelds running Palm OS(R) 3.5, 4.0 or 4.1.
