According to Bloomberg, HP is looking to offload some webOS patents. Who can blame them? HP lost a big opportunity when it dumped webOS into open source, then sold the code to LD. Now HP apparently needs the cash.
HP acquired webOS in 2010 when it bought Palm, and at the time intended to do something with webOS. Unfortunately, Mark Hurd the CEO was fired over a scandal, and webOS floundered. The company sold the code off to LG in February of 2013.
webOS was one of the best UI's I've ever seen. It was to mobile what BeOS was to desktops. It's too bad it never really materialized in a big way. You can see some of the gestures in iOS 7, but webOS was so much more than that. It was way ahead of its time.
