Key HP execs kept in the dark about plans to dump webOS

News - By: SPBlast! Staff - August 21, 2011

According to AllThingsD, key executives at HP were kept in the dark about HP's plans to dump the webOS hardware. Todd Bradley of the Personal Systems Group and the man who really made webOS a reality, Jon Rubinstein, were only informed of HP's plans on Sunday night. AllThingsD says both men are staying put for the time being, but who knows what the future holds.

Jon Rubinstein should walk away immediately. He has been making webOS promises for over 2 years now and he hasn't been able to deliver. For whatever reason, he chose to launch webOS on a seriously underpowered and undersized phone, the Pre. The Pre failed to gain traction because it was slow and too small. Every other major phone manufacturer was making much larger displays and Palm was going in the opposite direction. After he couldn't make a go of it at Palm, he sold out to HP and promised the world that the REAL top tier webOS phones were coming. (Uh huh.) A few months ago he was moved out of the webOS team with all sorts of explanations and he stayed at HP. Now HP pulls the rug out from the webOS team and Rubinstein is still there? Talk about having egg on your face.

Oh well, webOS was a nice dream that ended as a nightmare. A lot of people wasted a lot of money on crappy webOS experiences with the promise that things would get better. Better luck next time folks.
