Virtual soft keyboard shows up in webOS 2.0 after all

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - December 06, 2010

Who knew that a virtual software keyboard is included in webOS 2.0. You have to do some digging to get the keyboard to show, but PreCentral did it and you can see it in action in the video above.

Although the keyboard is buggy, it works. One frustrating issues is that in order to get the virtual keyboard to pop up, you have to actually slide the physical keyboard out of the Pre 2 and type Opt+Sym+K. Obviously, Palm/HP needs to do more work on this and it's not quite ready for prime time.

Here's how Precentral got the virtual keyboard to work:

"Using a Palm Pre 2, WebOS Internals went ahead and dug into the portion of webOS 2.0, entered "VirtualKeyboardEnabled=true" and after a UI restart hit Opt+Sym+K to bring up the software keyboard you see above.

The implementation is still a little buggy, but software keyboard on webOS exists right now - next step is a device that utilizes it. "
