Cortado Free offers free push email for mobile phones

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - March 12, 2007

Cortado, ThinPrint GmbH's online platform for mobile Business services will present a free version of its Microsoft Exchange-based push mail service for the first time at the CeBIT (Hall 26, Stand F60). The new service, which will be launched at CeBIT, offers mobile phone users a free push mail account, which they can use to send and receive emails in real time via their mobile devices.

The Cortado Free package includes a personal Cortado email address, which comes with a professional spam filter, virus protection, and a complete web-based Microsoft Outlook environment, as well as a 20 MB email account. Users who want to keep using their current email address can continue to do so, and push messages to their mobile phone. Cortado uses IMAP push technology for its free accounts, instead of ActivSync, which it uses for standard accounts. This is because nearly all current mobile phones are compatible to this standard. Devices such as the Nokia Nseries and Eseries, Sony Ericsson W, K, and P-series, as well as the new Apple iPhone, can, therefore, receive emails immediately (Push), and others according to intervals determined by the user.

There are currently 835 mobile phone models on the market that use IMAP support. In addition, IMAP push technology meets all the classic email requirements, and combines this with a very low volume of data. Unlike other providers requiring mobile phones to be installed with special software, Cortado always uses the available standard mail functions. It thus guarantees complete integration into the device, e.g. indicating when there is a new mail message or sending photos taken on a mobile phone.

Users who want to employ the additional services, can, at any time, switch to a Cortado account, which comes complete with ActivSync and other value added services. Their current mail address and mailbox remain unchanged.

"The free Cortado service enables the average mobile phone user to receive their emails in real time whilst on the go, without having to buy the latest equipment or pay expensive fees.' says Dirk Löwenberg, Business Director at Cortado Services. "When choosing a suitable data tariff, mobile push mail with Cortado is much more economical than sending text messages. There's no character limit, and it allows the mobile sending and receiving of attachments."
