After months of Internet rumors, leaked photos, and lots of guessing palmOne has officially unveiled the LifeDrive Mobile Manager. This is the first handheld to include a built-in 4 GB hard drive.
The LifeDrive is similar to other high-end palmOne handhelds. It has a 320 x 480 pixel screen (supporting portrait and landscape modes) and Bluetooth. What separates it from other handhelds is the 4GB hard drive included in the device. This hard drive led palmOne to announce they are developing a different class of handheld devices.
One of the included features Folder Sync, allows users to synchronize selected folders between their desktop computer and the LifeDrive.
Another very slick feature of the LifeDrive is Drive Mode. Drive mode enables users to plug the handheld into the USB port on a PC and have the microdrive appear as a removable drive.
"LifeDrive is versatile," said Ken Wirt, senior vice president of worldwide marketing for palmOne. "For the business executive, it's a personal mobile briefcase; for the photo enthusiast, it's a camera companion."
Multimedia Power
The LifeDrive runs Palm OS Garnet on a 416 MHz XScale processor and has 32 MB of RAM. It is 4.76 x 2.87 x 0.74 in. and weighs 6.8 ounces. It includes a slot for SD, SDIO, and MultiMediaCard cards.
