Earthlink is going to join a growing list of providers who offer the new Treo 650 smart phone. Earthlink will offer a CDMA/1xRTT version of the device, allowing it to handle voice and data with transfer rates at up to 144 kbps.
Earthlink claims to be the only provider that will also offer pre-bundled software for spam and virus blocking.
EarthLink will also offer an over-the-air synchronization between the Treo 650 and EarthLink's server to keep the address books updated without a cradle (this sounds very cool!).
"We are delighted to offer our customers the powerful Treo 650 smartphone,
representing the latest in wireless technology," said Brent Cobb, executive
vice president of Strategy and Business Development at SK-EarthLink, and
general manager of the EarthLink Wireless service line. "We are confident that
the full-featured Treo 650 coupled with EarthLink's award-winning services,
content and its exclusive TotalAccess software will provide mobile
professionals with everything they need to be productive."
Earthlink's Treo 650 will go on sale in late May 2005 for $599 before rebate. EarthLink's calling plans start at $39.95 per month. Unlimited data access can be purchased for an additional $19.95 per month.
Users can pre-register at Earthlink's web site.
