Palm.net Drops Unlimited Service Plans

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - January 22, 2003

Palm.net has discontinued offering their unlimited data service plan for use with the Palm VII series and the Palm i705 handhelds. The chane in pricing could mean increased charges for customers who were transmitting large volumes of data via the Palm.net service.

. Palm has stated that the change in pricing, which is effective January 20, 2003, will affect users whose contracts expire after that date as well as any new customers. Users who are currently under contract with Palm.net should be receiving certified letters to notify them of the changes.

The reason for the change in pricing is due to the fact that Cingular, the carrier which operates Palm.net's mobitex network, has changed their policy. The new policy makes it financially impossible to maintain the current unlimited data plan.

Palm is looking for alternative means of providing service, and they plan to have something available to consumers within the next few months.
