PalmSource Releases OS Update Info

PalmSource has released information about OS 5.2. The latest upgrade has already been given to licensees who are free to use it in new devices and/or issue an OS update to end users.

OS 5.2 will have a few new features most notable Graffiti 2, PalmSource's new handwriting recognition engine. Graffiti 2 is PalmSource's enhanced version of CIC's Jot. It was implemented in order to provide a more natural method of data input. Graffiti 2 will be available for OS 4 devices through an update labeled OS 4.1.2.

The other major improvement is the addition of an internal check for wireless capability. This will allow software to detect if a device has built-in wireless capablities. PalmSource has also made a commitment to develop a standard API for Virtual Graffit area's.

PalmSource has made a new version of the Palm OS 5 Simulator available that incorporates Palm OS 5.2. ROM images of Palm OS 4.1.2 have been made available through the PalmSource Developer Program.
