Palm Makes Good on Wireless Email

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - September 26, 2002

PalmSource Inc. and Good Technology have announced a partnership to bring GoodLink(TM), a wireless corporate messaging system, to Palm OS devices. The goal is to bring an end-to-end system for continuously synchronizing a variety of popular Palm OS handhelds with corporate email and data.

The deal will give the Palm OS access to two-way wireless synchronization capabilities, a feature that Palm feels is necessary in today's competitive market. According to the agreement both companies will work together to ensure the highest level of quality for GoodLink on the Palm OS. In addition, the companies will jointly market the product.

Editor's Take
Although Palm benefits with the addition of wireless synchronization I feel that Good Technology is getting the best deal here. Good Technology, struggling to fend off a series of lawsuits from RIM has instantly gained access to the largest corporate PDA market - the Palm OS accounts for roughly 50% of all corporate handhelds. In addition to the credibility that comes with working handh in hand with Palm the deal calls for joint development and marketing of GoodLink. Even with all of the potential benefits GoodLink needs to have the support of Palm's licensees in order for the deal to be a success.
