Palm Annoucnes Tungsten MIM Solution

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - September 23, 2002

Since Palm trademarked the terms Tungsten and Zire there has been a myriad of speculation as to what these trademarks would be used for. It seemed as though everyone had some sort of explanation for Palm's need to trademark these terms. Some thought that the Tungsten and Zire would be new devices while others thought the terms would be used to distinguish between Palm's device company, and Palm's software company. In recent weeks information has begun to leak that confirmed that the Tungsten and Zire would be product lines.

Today Palm has shed a little bit more light on these two new devices, and the first product from the Tungsten line, the Mobile Information Management System, was also released.

According to Palm's recent press report the industry centered Tungsten line will "include industrial-strength handheld hardware and software solutions for mobile professionals and serious business users. These solutions will use cutting-edge wireless and mobile technologies to solve complex technology problems for IT managers seeking to deliver secure data to mobile work forces." On the other hand the individual focused Zire line will "offer snappy personal products that get straight to the point for individuals. With 50 percent fun and 50 percent take-charge ingredients, Zire handhelds are simple, approachable and easy-to-use for people balancing personal, professional or academic lives -- or all of the above."

While no price point has been given for the Tungsten line of products there has been ample speculation that Palm is looking to release a entry level Zire for under $100.
