First OS 5 PDA Due in October

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - September 19, 2002

According to Todd Bradley, CEO of Palm Solutions Group, we can expect to see the first devices running Palm OS 5 by the end of October. There has been an increase in the number of rumors circulating about new Palm devices, and this announcement will only provide fuel for the fire.

Palm gave it's licensees the code for OS 5 in May, and a lot of work has gone into making the next version of the Palm OS a winner. The new OS will run on ARM chips, which also power many of rival Microsoft's Pocket PC devices.

The new OS is expected to be a major step for Palm with enthusiasts clammoring for the promised features. Palm has peaked user interest with promises of greater personalization, enhanced security, and a greater incorporation of multimedia capabilities.

Editor's Take
I'm excited to see the new devices that Palm and it's licensees release to market. Palm must make great strides with the new OS in order to maintain it's competitive edge.

In the past Palm has always pushed the idea of simplicity beyond all else, but it remains to be seen whether Palm was able to maintain the simplicity of the OS while incorporating the added features that users have long asked for.
