AlphaSmart Announces Dana PalmOS Laptop

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - October 24, 2002

AlphaSmart has announced the availability of the Dana, a PalmOS device that looks very similar to a laptop computer. The Dana is targeted mainly at students and frequent travellers who need mobile computing power without the battery life limitations of a traditional notebook computer.

The Dana, which retails for $399, runs on Palm OS 4.1. It features a 560 by 160 pixel touchscreen. For added input functionality the Dana also incorporates an integrated, full-sized keyboard. The device ships with 8 MB of memory, and has two SD/MMC slots for memory expansion.

The standard Palm OS applications have been optimized to take advantaged of the larger screen on the Dana. In addition to the standard PalmOS software the Dana ships with AlphaWord, a Microsoft Word compatible word processor. Other software bundled with the device includes: QuickOffice from Cutting Edge Software, and PrintBoy from Bachman Software.

A current promotion bundles one year of Aileron Mail for Dana with purchase of a new device. Aileron Mail is a comprehensive, secure and dependable business-quality messaging solution for mobile users. Users can manage their corporate and personal email, with an ability to download and upload business documents sent as email attachments using their Dana device.
